Rupert Struber studied percussion at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where his musical talents were fostered by Peter Sadlo and he graduated as a Master of Arts with distinction.
He is a founding member of the VIA NOVA Percussion Group. Together with Via Nova, he won the first prize as well as an audience award and another special prize at the "International Percussion Competition Luxembourg 2005". In addition, he has also won the "International Pendim Percussion Competition" on multiple occasions - as a soloist (2005) and as part of a duo (2007).
As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed at festivals such as the Schwetzingen Festival, the MDR Music Summer, the Mainz Music Summer, the Ensemblia Mönchengladbach, Potsdamer Crossover Concerts, the Hong Kong Drum Festival, the International Percussion Convention Taipei, the Festival Echternach Luxembourg, BEMUS Belgrade, the Biennale Salzburg, Wien Modern, the Carinthian Music Summer, the Salon of Arts Sofia, lés muséiques Basel, at the International Music Festival A Tempo Montenegro and the Grachtenfestival Thorn. As an orchestral musician, he performs regularly with Camerata Salzburg, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, and Kremerata Baltica.
Furthermore, he is also extensively involved in the field of contemporary music as a guest of oenm (Austrian Ensemble for Contemporary Music). Rupert Struber gives workshops and master classes in Austria, Germany and France. His special interest is focused on the combination of individual percussion instruments and the study of the resulting sounds.
